Chlorine dioxide 3000 ppm (CDS): what it is, how to store it and formats
Chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) is a gas used dissolved in water as a biocide for water treatment. The 3000 ppm aqueous solution, commercially known as CDS, is one of the most common presentations. Here we explain what it is, how to store it and which formats are available.
What does “3000 ppm” mean?
ppm stands for “parts per million”. A 3000 ppm solution contains approximately 3 g of chlorine dioxide per litre (0.3%). It is a concentrated solution that is used diluted, always following the label instructions.
How is it obtained?
Chlorine dioxide is generated by reacting sodium chlorite with an acid activator. The gas produced is collected in water until the desired concentration is reached. That is why there are two options:
- Ready-made 3000 ppm solution: ready to use according to the label. See chlorine dioxide 3000 ppm.
- Kit to generate it in situ: 25% sodium chlorite + activator, for those who prefer to prepare it when needed. See chlorite + activator kit.
Storage: cold, darkness and a closed container
- Refrigerated: chlorine dioxide is a dissolved gas that is lost with heat. Above 10 °C it is advisable to refrigerate it and keep it cold once opened.
- Protected from light: light breaks it down; that is why it is packed in amber glass.
- Tightly closed: do not leave the container open; open it only for as long as necessary.
- Glass container: plastic is partially permeable to the gas. See the packaging guide.
- If gas is released, ventilate the area well: chlorine dioxide is toxic if inhaled.
How to check the concentration
The concentration can be checked with specific test strips or with chlorine dioxide measuring equipment. A TDS meter gives a general reference for the water, but does not measure chlorine dioxide selectively. We offer the water treatment kit with chlorine dioxide, meter and jerrycan.
Available formats
- Amber glass bottles of 125 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml and 1 L.
- Lots of 5 to 20 units with volume pricing.
All products in this family are in the chlorine dioxide collection.
Frequently asked questions
Where to buy chlorine dioxide in Spain?
At Aquapurelife we prepare and pack it in Spain and ship it within 24-72 h, with free shipping from €40.
How long does it last once opened?
It depends on the temperature and how many times it is opened. Tightly closed and refrigerated, it keeps for longer; check the date and the instructions on the label.
Can I transport it in summer?
Yes, but it is advisable to refrigerate it on receipt and not open it until it is cold, so that the gas is not lost.
