How activated carbon works
The activation process creates a network of microscopic pores in the charcoal that multiplies its internal surface area. Dyes, odours and many dissolved organic compounds are retained on that surface, which is why it is used to decolourise solutions, as a filter medium and to remove odours in enclosed spaces. As a fine powder it gives rapid contact with the liquid being treated; after use it is separated by settling or filtering.

Storage and handling
Keep the jar tightly closed, in a dry place away from strong odours and moisture, as activated carbon adsorbs them from the air and loses capacity. It is a very fine powder that stains: open it carefully, away from draughts, and wear gloves and a mask.
