How to identify if your CDS 3000 ppm is of good quality?

⚗️ How to identify if your 3000 ppm CDS is of good quality

Summary: Learn to recognize quality CDS by analyzing its appearance, smell, concentration, and storage methods.

What is CDS?

CDS (Chlorine Dioxide Solution) is a saturated aqueous solution of chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) used as a biocide, disinfectant, and water purifier. Its popularity has grown due to its high effectiveness in technical disinfection and microbiological control.

Keys to identifying a quality CDS

  • Color: It should be a light straw yellow. If it's completely clear, it may be diluted; if it's brown, it could be opacified.
  • Odor: Light chlorine aroma. A weak odor indicates loss of concentration; a strong odor may indicate poor preparation.
  • Concentration: Measurable with ppm equipment. The standard is 3000 ppm for well-saturated solutions.
  • Packaging: Opaque glass only and refrigerated (4°C). Plastic degrades the product and reduces its shelf life.

How to check it at home

  • Use test strips or a digital ppm meter.
  • Check the manufacturing date and shelf life (usually 6 months refrigerated, 2 weeks opened).
  • Observe if it produces a light cold mist when opened (indicates gasification).

Precautions

  • Do not shake or expose to heat.
  • Do not mix with other chemicals without knowledge of reactions.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
